Info

The GAINS project is a research project funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland (SRC), which started in autumn 2025 (funding period 3+3 years). The multidisciplinary consortium consists of the University of Turku, Aalto University, HUS and the University of Helsinki.

The research project focuses on researching the effects of generative artificial intelligence and digital services in social and health care. In particular, we study how generative artificial intelligence and digital solutions improve the productivity, accessibility and cost-effectiveness of services and support sustainable economic growth.

We utilise Finland's unique register data, extensive randomized experiments and multidisciplinary research methods. The study is divided into four work packages:

  • WP1: Effectiveness and productivity of digital health solutions
  • WP2: Effectiveness of generative AI in clinical settings
  • WP3: Social, ethical and legal frameworks for digital, data-driven and AI solutions
  • WP4: Project management, coordination and societal impact

WP3: Social, ethical and legal frameworks for digital, data-driven and AI solutions

WP3 examines the socio-legal context, challenges and opportunities related to the use of artificial intelligence and digital solutions in healthcare and their impacts on productivity and effectiveness from a user perspective. These areas are addressed in all tasks, either through critical reflection or through empirical analysis integrated into other WP entities.
